An account of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis’s actions in the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath, which includes the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it.
This film cannot be spoiled much because most of the people know what happened in Boston in 2013. There are many documentaries about the events and now a full feature film.
Patriot Day is a movie that recollects the events that unfolded before, during and after the Boston bombings. If you have been living in a bottle, you should know that on April 15, 2013, two homemade bombs detonated near the finish line of the annual Boston Marathon killing three people and injuring several hundred others, including 16 who lost limbs. I’m not fond of reading the news nowadays, but as well as other terrorist attacks also this event shocked me in a way.
The film depicts the events quite accurately, but that’s quite expected considering the fact there’s a lot of material from that day shot by the people who were there. However, if the events are accurate enough, the characters in the movie are not. The main character Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) is not a real person, but it became apparent very quickly somehow for him being a bit over the top.
However, the story of Patrick Downes and Jessica Kensky is real. Also, most of the facts around the medical person and other help on the scene were happening.
The movie was overall very informative and even entertaining. It’s a bit questionable whether a real tragedy like this should be made as a form of entertainment, but I understand it usually makes a good story. Characters in the film are believable except Mark Wahlberg’s. Shame, because I usually like him. He was great in Deepwater Horizon.
Overall great film. Thrilling, moving and compelling. We should not forget to be courageous. Watchable on Digital HD on Amazon, Google Play Movies, and iTunes.
